Ortofon is the world's largest cartridge manufacturer, producing designs across every price point and philosophy. The SPU series represents the classic moving-coil tradition — warm, dense, and rhythmically powerful. The 2M series covers high-resolution moving-magnet designs.

Ortofon cartridges span from warm and dense (SPU, Cadenza) to precise and revealing (2M Black, MC Windfeld). The brand covers a wider sonic range than most — cartridge selection matters more than brand character.
Pairing Guidance
Ortofon cartridges are compatible with virtually any tonearm and phono stage. The SPU series requires medium-mass arms and MC-capable phono stages. The 2M series works with standard MM inputs. The Ortofon SPU + matched-impedance SUT chain is one of the canonical low-output MC references of the Musical Communication School — the brand sits within the school as the wider cartridge cluster the school's analog-source side draws from.
