Philosophy

TotalDAC builds discrete R2R ladder DACs using hand-matched resistor arrays. The design philosophy prioritises time-domain accuracy, natural decay, and tonal density over measured linearity. No off-the-shelf DAC chips — every conversion stage is built from discrete components.

Sonic Character

Listeners describe TotalDAC as fluid, dense, and natural-sounding with exceptional transient decay and depth. Very low digital glare. The R2R topology delivers strong tonal weight and harmonic richness. Time-domain coherence is a defining characteristic — instruments start and stop naturally.

Pairing Guidance

TotalDAC pairs exceptionally well with tube amplification and high-efficiency speakers. The lack of digital glare means revealing speakers and simple amplifier topologies can be used without harshness. The d1-unity with live clocking option represents serious digital front-end investment.

A natural partner for Leben, Shindo, and other tube amplifiers. The time-domain focus aligns with the priorities of high-efficiency speaker systems.
